Twisting park and forest roads pass through 604 acres of deep ravines and dense woodlands. Scattered shortleaf and pitch pines growing on the ridges were once a source of pine tar for early settlers, hence the name Tar Hollow. Dogwoods, redbuds and a variety of wildflowers color the hillsides in the springtime. Fall's pageant of color is spectacular. |

Cell phone coverage is very limited at Tar Hollow State Park and Forest. Please plan accordingly.WINTER CAMPING OPERATIONS: The Tar Hollow State Park campground will remain open during the off-season. Limited electric and non-electric campsites will be available on a walk-in basis from -11/1/2016 to -4/10/17. The shower house will be closed from -12/19/2016 to approximately -3/31/2017. The water and the dump station will remain open. Please follow the self-registration instructions located at the general store upon arrival or you may register at the park office from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Thank you. |
